My heart is an egg

Instead of a heart, I was given an egg. Every time I bump up against something, the shell cracks, and yolk spills into my veins. (Maybe on some days I look slightly jaundiced.) I used to think it was the nature of what I bumped against--what was outside of me-- but now I don't think so. It's just me. My egg is in my basket, and now I know I need to carry myself gently.

This is really beautiful, Beth. There are so many creation myths that are about the "cosmic egg." Something cracks the egg, destroying the original unity. Usually it is a serpent. So many of your entries look like beginnings to really cool stories. Love you.

Yes, carry yourself tenderly and gently. Treasure what is inside of you. Respect its delicacy, but don't be surprised by its strength. This was truly beautiful.

What a wonderful entry! I especially like the realization, "I used to think it was the nature of what I bumped against--what was outside of me--but now I don't think so."

Thanks for sharing!

maybe one should not worry about the fragility of the egg/heart and go ahead and bump into life... the kings horses and men are not doomed to failure here - indeed they are not even needed - all that is required is the spirit of the untethered heart...

Love this, Beth, dear!

Quite beautiful - a lovely image. But Beth - sometimes we can work to strengthen that shell so we don't have to be quite so gentle with ourselves. That way we can experience more.

Try calcium ;)

Love, Vicky

Had to stop back. I think your egg is a beautiful metaphor for the openness to experience so necessary for growth. And how it flows in your veins, why you must write.
